How Using Proper Graphic Formats is the Secret to Good Website Design
There are many different file formats that website design companies can use for site design. However, every specific graphic format has its own function and use and it is a part of good website design to use them judiciously.
Properties that these formats have:
In terms of common properties of these website design graphic formats, there are five main types. These are namely:
- Compression: This refers to the ability to store an image in a smaller file size. This employs using special algorithms to measure pixels as single items.
- Transparency: This varies the opaqueness of an image from being totally solid to being totally see-through or transparent.
- Progressive loading: In this case of website design, a part of the image is loaded first. However, it is not decided on the concept of alternating rows. This allows the picture to get loaded quicker.
- Interlacing: This is much like progressive loading, except that the odd numbered rows of the image appear first, followed by even numbered rows. Users can see images quickly using this format of website design.
- Animation: In this case of website design graphical formats, various still images are moved in quick succession to make it seem like they are moving. Most animated GIF images work on all browsers as they do not need plug-ins for them.
File formats available:
There are three main graphic file formats in website design. These are GIF, JPEG and PNG. One of the oldest formats is GIF and it helps loading images quickly. They have only 8 bits of color and have interlacing and transparency incorporated in them. These are the most common forms of graphics in website design and images look good in such formats. JPEGs are compressed files and have a 24 bit color capacity. In situations where you need high quality images in website design, a JPEG format works well. Compression elements of JPEG files can be easily controlled by a website design company. The download speeds for such format files is faster and in cases of complicated drawings, the overall quality is excellent. In PNG graphic formats, there is support for 24 bit color images. Both interlacing and transparency is incorporated in such images. Such images also can have a description alongside, for use in search engines. Compared to JPEG images, PNG images look much better and hence are preferred where high quality images are needed. Plus, it overcomes the restrictions of an 8 bit color image in website design.

Rafa: Fourth easier now
Rafa: Fourth easier now
The Reds are now just four points behind fourth-placed Tottenham - who they play at Anfield in January - following the 1-0 triumph at Villa Park.
Benitez believes his side have gained much more than three points from the victory.
He said: "We knew we had to win to reduce the gap. The team was working hard and you could see how everyone was together.
"I'm really pleased for Fernando, for the team and for the club. After this game it's easier because everyone's happier.
"We've talked about the squad. Players like Gerrard, Torres, Carra, Mascherano - they all played so well last year and if they do the same we can do well.
"We were playing a team with a lot of confidence. We had to work hard and play well. The conditions were really bad but little by little we controlled possession. We made some mistakes but tried to win the game from beginning to end."
On his much-publicised 'guarantee' that Liverpool will finish in the top four, Benitez added: "You have some experience as a journalist. What do you think a manager will say? People are surprised because I say I guarantee. But I am a manager, I have to believe and I believe 100 per cent we'll be in the top four."
Benitez knows keeping Torres fit for the rest of the season will be key to his side's chances.
The Spanish ace played despite an ankle problem and became the fastest player in Liverpool history to record 50 league goals.
Benitez said: "He had some problems with his ankle more than his groin. He's working hard with the physios and fitness coach. It depends on how he feels but he was okay for this game.
"We signed a very good player, a player with a good mentality and quality. You saw here that he has one chance and he scores.
"He is one of the best strikers in the world. For me, you can never, ever say someone is the best because there are other good strikers in other countries.
"I was surprised the other day with an expert talking about how Gerrard scores goals and always saves Liverpool. But he is Steven Gerrard. And Fernando Torres is the same.
"If these players are fit and playing well then we know we're a very good team. Hopefully Fernando will be fit until the end of the season."
The gaffer also reserved words of praise for Pepe Reina, who ensured Liverpool kept a clean sheet with a string of world-class saves.
"Reina is a fantastic keeper," said Benitez. "When you have a top-class keeper in a top side you know there will only be one or two situations where he has to be good and he is really good in those situations."

Tiny Mauritius Tells US To Shove Its Dollar, Buys 2 Metric Tons Of Gold From IMF At $1,115 An Ounce
The latest development in the gold bubble saga, and one which will likely cause the precious metal's price to spike even higher, comes from the tiny island of Mauritius which according to Dow Jones has purchased 2 metric tons of Gold from the IMF for $71.7 million. The price works out to approximately $1,115 per ounce. More as we get it. (and yes, this is a picture of Mauritius not some CNBC anchor hangout).
Some more from Dow Jones:
The International Monetary Fund announced Monday it has sold two tons of gold to the central bank of the Indian Ocean island of Mauritius for nearly $72 million.
The sale came as gold prices surged Monday to an all-time high of $1,136.72 per ounce.
The sale to Mauritius "was conducted on the basis of market prices prevailing on November 11, 2009 with proceeds equivalent to U.S. 71.7 million dollars," the IMF said in a statement.
It was the second such sale by the fund since September, when its executive board authorized the sale of 403.3 tons of gold from its holdings to bolster its finances amid the global economic crisis.
On Nov. 2 it sold 200 tons of gold to the central bank of India for $6.7 billion.
The IMF said it would sell gold directly to central banks and other official holders for an initial period before selling the remaining amount on the open markets "in a phased manner over time."
The Washington-based IMF, which currently holds just over 3,000 tons of gold, is the third-largest official holder of the precious metal after the U.S. and Germany

Gerrard pleased with attitude
Steven Gerrard believes Liverpool's 2-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers will help reinvigorate the Reds' quest for a top four finish.
The captain opened the scoring with a powerful header against the Midlanders on Boxing Day, before Yossi Benayoun's strike secured the three points for Rafa Benitez's side.
Gerrard is confident Liverpool will continue to ascend the Barclays Premier League table if they display a similar mentality and determination over the coming weeks.
"Wolves came here organised, they were always going to be difficult to beat," he said.
"It was just all about waiting for that breakthrough. But we knew if we had the belief it would come, and it did. When you're not getting the results you expect it's always going to affect confidence.
"But we want to put it right. The players are hurting at the moment. If we keep showing the attitude we did against Wolves we'll move up to where we want to be."
Meanwhile, Jamie Carragher feels the dismissal of Wolves' Stephen Ward was a key moment in the game after the Irish defender was sent off for a second bookable offence early in the second-half.
He added: "Wolves played very well first-half, were very well organised and caught us on the counter-attack a couple of times. The sending-off obviously gave us a helping hand.
"Once you get the first (goal) it settles people down but I think the second one killed the game, especially when they had 10 men. That's what we needed because we're not fully confident at the moment so it certainly settled the nerves."
